Siemens launches Protos environment-friendly stove(Business World (Philippines) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Siemens Philippines has supported the efforts of Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances Group (BSH) in launching its latest environment-friendly stove called Protos. Also a low-cost stove, Protos uses plant oil extracts instead of kerosene or wood. Like any similar camping stoves, Protos has a tank, a pump, a frame, a valve, a fuel line, and a burner. It can work with plant oils, used oils from frying, refined oils, and plant oil esters, as well as kerosene. According to BSH, Protos can help protect people worldwide who are at risk of cooking their food over open fires. Recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that 1.6 million people die each year as a result of indoor pollution caused by open-fire cooking. It can also help cut down the use of wood. Studies also reveal that a family could use up to two tons of wood per year causing excessive logging. Plant oils are said to burn without harming the person's health as they are carbon dioxide neutral. In the Philippines, tests from over 100 households and small restaurants show significant results.
