Politician's son among bus crash victims
(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)A bus in northern India drove off a bridge and into a river early Wednesday morning, killing 21 people, including the son of a political leader.
Twenty-six people were also injured when the bus, traveling from New Delhi to the tourist town of Nainitel in the state of Uttar Pradesh, crashed through the rails of a bridge and fell into the Kosi River. The incident happened near the town of Rampur, 110 miles east of Delhi, the Press Trust of India reported.
Among the victims was the son of the state president of the Congress party in the neighboring state of Uttaranchal. Most of the passengers were asleep when the accident occurred, and police had to break the windows to rescue the passengers in the overturned vehicle.
Police said that the driver and conductor of the bus were missing.
In the last week 70 people have lost their lives in bus accidents in India, the BBC reported.
