[May 01, 2006] China targets coal output of 2.45 bln tons a year by 2010 Tweet (Asia In Focus Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, May 1 Asia in Focus - China is targeting a coal output of 2.45 billion tons a year by 2010 and the creation of a basic balance between coal supply and demand, according to the National Development and Reform Commission's (NDRC) Guide to the Restructuring of the Coal Industry and Countermeasures to Excessive Production Capacity. The guide, which was on April 28 published, clearly requires China to realize a stable supply and quality of coal during its 11th Five-Year Program period (2006-2010), with the construction of 5-7 large coal enterprise groups and the completion of rectification, renovation and reorganization of small coal mines. * Under the plan, the mechanization rate of large and medium-sized coal mines will reach 95 per cent and 80 per cent, respectively. * The mechanization and semi-mechanization rate of small coal mines will be over 30 per cent, while the recovery rate of coalmine resources nationwide will be above 40 per cent.
