Death toll from bird flu reaches 113 worldwide, WHO says+(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)GENEVA, April 21_(Kyodo) _ The death toll from H5N1 avian influenza has reached 113 people, with the number of patients coming to 204, the World Health Organization reported Friday. The number of patients has topped 200 because eight people in Egypt were confirmed positive, the U.N. health agency said. The Ministry of Health in Egypt has informed the WHO of the country's fourth death from H5N1 bird flu, the WHO said, adding the death occurred in a previously announced patient, an 18-year-old girl from the northern governorate of Minufiyah. Of the 12 cases in Egypt, four patients have died and one remains hospitalized in stable condition. Seven patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital. The Ministry of Health in China, meanwhile, has informed the organization of the country's 12th death from the disease, the WHO said, adding the death occurred in a previously reported case, a 21-year-old man from Hubei Province. The number of patients in China has reached 17, it said. |
