Solid Information Technology to Bring its Proven Mission-Critical Database Technology to Open Source Community; Solid to Unveil Transactional Storage Engine at the MySQL Users Conference

CUPERTINO, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- April 17, 2006 -- Solid Information Technology, a provider of fast, always-on and flexible databases used in more than 3,000,000 mission-critical deployments worldwide, today announced its open source strategy. Solid(TM) is adapting its proven online transaction processing (OLTP) storage engine to work with MySQL Server, allowing businesses to adopt open source relational databases for mission-critical applications. A prototype of solidDB(TM) Storage Engine for MySQL will be available for download and community testing on April 24, 2006. The source code of solidDB Storage Engine will be covered by GNU Public License (GPL) and will be available as a beta release in July 2006. The product will be generally available in Q4 2006.

"An open source storage engine will spur the adoption of open source relational databases for mission critical applications," said Stacey Quandt, research director at AberdeenGroup. "The availability of the solidDB open source storage engine will enable a smooth transition for customers seeking an alternative to Oracle's InnoDB."

The introduction of solidDB Storage Engine for MySQL will bring forth the robust, proven OLTP capabilities that Solid has been providing and enhancing for more than 14 years. Key features of solidDB Storage Engine include:

-- multi-version concurrency control

-- full transactional integrity with robust ACID support

-- online backup capabilities

-- fast performance for mixed workloads

-- robust security with database roles

-- dynamically configurable parameters
