Lulu's pet terrier in pounds 2500 heart op

(Daily Record Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)SCOTS pop legend Lulu is spending pounds 2500 to have her pet dog fitted with a heart pacemaker.

Highland terrier Bonnie, aged 14, had suffered repeated fainting fits because of an irregular heartb eat.

So Lulu, 57, who rose to fame as a teenager with the hit Sixties single Shout, had her fitted with the device.

Glasgow-born Lulu said: "Her quality of life has to be good, even though I know she can't live forever.

"It was really upsetting to see Bonnie fall over and not recover and I was very emotional at the hospital.

"It was terrible to see her like that. After the operation, she walked funny to start with but then she perked up.

"If she's a happy bunny, then I'm a happy bunny."

The operation was carried out at the Royal Veterinary College in Brookmans Park, Hertfordshire, and can be seen on BBC1's Super Vets programme onWednesday.

Vet Virginia Luis Fentes, who carried out the op, said: "Without a pacemaker, the quality of life for pets in this condition becomes miserable.

"They are at risk of falling downstairs and of something happening to them.

"Bonnie has been a very good patient and well-behaved. She recovered quickly and seems comfortable.

"She hasn't had any fainting episodes and we're very happy at how things have gone."
