Soccer: Zico looking to coach European club after World Cup+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, April 14_(Kyodo) _ Japan national soccer coach Zico is hoping to coach a European club after this summer's World Cup finals, Japan Football Association President Saburo Kawabuchi said Friday.

"While in Japan, he may have realized how interesting the coaching job is," Kawabuchi said, noting that Zico voiced his hopes to coach a European club during their meeting Thursday.

Zico has made clear his intention to quit as Japan coach after the World Cup finals in Germany kicking off June 9.

The 53-year-old Brazilian served primarily as technical director for Kashima Antlers after ending his illustrious playing career at J-League club Kashima Antlers in 1994, but was not keen to take on the coach's role.

However, Zico took over from Frenchman Philippe Troussier after the 2002 World Cup finals and said earlier that he accepted an offer to become Japan coach because of his affection for the country.
