Toshiba Launches Portege(R) M405 -- Advanced Tablet PC For Retail Customers; Thin and Light Portege(R) M405-S8003 Features Tablet PC Functionality, New Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo Processor and Toshiba's EasyGuard(TM) Technology
IRVINE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- April 11, 2006 -- Toshiba's Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS), today announced the Portege(R) M405-S8003, a high-performance, thin and light Tablet PC sold at major consumer electronics stores nationwide with an estimated single unit price of less than $2,000(a).
Featuring business-level performance and mobility, the Portege M405-S8003 weighs approximately 4.5 pounds(b) and is designed for consumers who require on-demand business applications and all the functionality of a notebook computer with the benefits of digital pen-based input and control.
The Portege M405-S8003 features the new Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor(c) T2400 that reduces power consumption while boosting overall performance from graphics to wireless capabilities. The Portege M405-S8003 also features EasyGuard(TM) technology(d), a series of hardware and software enhancements designed to help boost mobile security, system integrity, network connectivity and overall ease-of-use.
The Portege M405-S8003 offers a bright, 12.1-inch XGA diagonal display that easily switches into "slate" mode so users can stay productive at their desk, standing, in a meeting or lounging at home. With the Portege M405-S8003, users can use the mouse, keyboard, digital-ink-enabled pen or their voice to manipulate information and maximize productivity.

The Portege M405-S8003 comes with a six-cell battery(g) for up to five hours of computing time. Toshiba also equipped the Portege M405-S8003 with a swappable Ultra SlimBay for a CD-RW/DVD, DVD SuperMulti optical drives or a second hard drive for onboard data backup.
The Portege M405-S8003 notebook offers a standard one-year limited warranty(h). This warranty includes carry-in support at Authorized Service Providers throughout the country, or the customer may use any of the more than 3,000 UPS Stores for packaging and delivery of the product to a centralized depot for prompt service turnaround. Customers can also choose to upgrade the notebook's service plans, including up to four years of extended service plans.
