DJ Newmont Indonesian Unit Selling Sumatra Gold Mine(Comtex Business Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)JAKARTA, Apr 05, 2006 (Dow Jones Commodities News via Comtex) --The U.S. mining giant Newmont Mining Corp. (NEM) is selling its majority stake in a gold mine in North Sumatra, as the company deemed the reserve not "economical enough," an official with its local unit said Wednesday. "We have returned the mine to the government," said Nunik Maulana, PT Newmont Pacific Nusantara's spokeswoman. Newmont bought the majority stake in the Martabe mine in 2002 from Normandy Mining, which signed a mining contract with the government in 1997. Last month, PT Aneka Tambang (ANTM.JK)'s President Director Dedi Aditya Sumanagara told Dow Jones newswires that the mine is one of several properties that Antam is looking at to boost its gold output. -By Deden Sudrajat; Dow Jones Newswires; 62-21 39831277; [email protected] -Edited by Jarrett Banks (END) Dow Jones Newswires 04-05-06 0132ET |
