The country's rubber output rose due to favorable weather conditions during the period, the official said. "Planters are still tapping rubber in view of the attractive prices," he said. Prices of natural rubber have risen sharply over the year. In February, the RSS IV grade was quoted at INR80.45 a kilogram, up from INR51.49/kg in the same month of last year. In view of high international prices, importing of rubber hasn't been viable while exporting of rubber has become attractive, the official added. Rubber stocks as of Feb. 28 totaled 118,000 tons, down from 127,000 tons a year earlier. The decline in stocks was attributed to a rise in the consumption of natural rubber, mainly for the manufacturing of tires. The official said consumption of natural rubber for tire production has increased 9.2% on the year during the April-to-February period. The Rubber Board is a state-owned agency that promotes rubber production. -By Sameer Mohindru, Dow Jones Newswires; 91-11-2307-4020; [email protected] -Edited by Tracy Gan (END) Dow Jones Newswires 04-04-06 0456ET |
