New Xerox Light Production Systems Print Everything from Bills to Brochures

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. --(Business Wire)-- April 4, 2006 -- Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) new 4590 and 4110 Enterprise Printing Systems give print providers more flexibility to produce everything from short-run publishing jobs such as brochures and booklets to transactional applications including invoices and bills.

The ability to print both types of documents on one device is a cost-effective, productive business model for print providers looking for a competitive edge.

The latest additions to Xerox's black-and-white light production family are designed for large enterprises, service bureaus, data centers, in-plant printing environments, and commercial and quick print shops. The systems are available at 90 pages per minute and at 110 ppm, among the fastest in the light production class.

"The Xerox 4590 and 4110 Enterprise Printing Systems build on the success of the copier/printer versions of the 4590 and 4110, whose excellent halftone quality and solid user interface have been very well received by users," said Jim Hamilton, director, InfoTrends On Demand Printing & Publishing Consulting Service. "As entry-level printing systems with a full-featured DocuSP front-end system, the 4590 and 4110 Enterprise Printing Systems are a good fit for environments with a range of transactional and graphic arts applications."

The Xerox 4590 and 4110 Enterprise Printing Systems, enabled by the Xerox FreeFlow(R) DocuSP(R) print controller, accept data in industry-standard formats such as PostScript and PDF for printing traditional publishing documents; VIPP and PPML for personalized documents; and IPDS and LCDS for transactional jobs. Presses that don't support this kind of native printing use software to transform the data stream before it reaches the printer, which can slow down print jobs and lead to more errors.

"Print providers must have the right business model to deliver whatever type of document is needed, exactly when it is needed - whether it's hundreds of statements or a handful of booklets with color covers - and these systems respond to those demands," said Quincy Allen, president, Xerox Production Systems Group.

The Xerox 4590 and 4110 Enterprise Printing Systems also offer:

-- Speed. The power of the FreeFlow DocuSP print controller allows multiple jobs to be received, processed and printed without a lag in productivity.

-- Media latitude and capacity. The Xerox 4590 and 4110 Enterprise Printing Systems print on a range of paper sizes and weights from 5.5" x 7.2" to 13" x 19.2" and from 52 grams to 216 grams per square meter. Consequently, the systems can handle a variety of uncoated stocks and specialty media such as tabs, transparencies and carbonless paper for use in multi-part forms. Also, the printers hold up to 8,225 sheets of paper so print providers can produce job continuously while leaving the systems unattended.

-- In-line finishing. A post-process inserter lets print providers take advantage of the impact of color by inserting color covers or pages into black-and-white documents. Other in-line options, such as different stapling configurations, hole-punching, saddle-stitching and envelope-ready folding, allow print providers to quickly deliver high-quality, finished documents.

-- Image quality. The systems offer 2400 x 2400 dots-per-inch resolution resulting in text, graphics and pictures printed in extremely fine detail.
