Toshiba unit expects 25% laptop market growth
(BNamericas.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Japanese electronics manufacturer Toshiba expects the Chilean laptop market to grow at least 25% this year, the company's territory manager for Chile Andrs Parada told BNamericas.
Parada was not able to comment on Toshiba's sales forecasts but did say the company is expected to grow enough to maintain its share in the local market. Worldwide, the company ranks third in laptop sales.
To increase sales, the company has designed different strategies for its distribution channels, which include resellers targeting the corporate segment, and retail chains.
"Within our strategy for the corporate segment we are now giving more support to our wholesalers with the hope this support trickles down to the resellers. We are strongly pushing sales this half with a sales contest and prize of tickets to the soccer World Cup in Germany," he said.
Parada said Toshiba's sales in the country are equally divided between the corporate and the residential segment.
Commenting about new technologies, the executive said the company is promoting US chip maker Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) new processor Centrino Duo, particularly through its new model Tecra A6.
"In terms of cutting edge technology we have the new laptop Qosmio, one of the first units in the market that uses digital convergence, meaning a 4-in-1 unit with cable and wireless TV options, DVD and audio, besides the traditional computer," Parada added.
During April, Toshiba is also celebrating the 21st anniversary of the launching of its first consumer laptop, the Toshiba T1100.
