Egypt Israel's fastest growing export market in February


(Israel Business Arena Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Egypt was Israel's fastest growing export market in February 2006: exports rose 168%, compared with February 2005, to $8.3 million, the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute reports in a survey of Israeli exports markets of over $1 million a month.



The US was Israel's largest export market in February; exports rose 11.4% to $604 million. Last was Slovenia, to which exports fell 83% to $2.6 million.

The second fastest growing export market in February, compared with February 2005, was Bulgaria, to which exports rose 140% to $4.8 million. Bulgaria was followed by Japan, to which exports rose 127% to $89 million; Costa Rica, to which exports rose 106% to $27 million; and the Czech Republic, to which exports rose 73% to $6.4 million.


The sharpest drop in exports in February, compared with February 2005, was to Slovenia, followed by Venezuela, to which exports fell 45% to $2.2 million. Exports to Austria fell 43% to $4.6 million; exports to Ecuador fell 42.5% to $2.3 million, and exports to Ghana fell 35% to $1.3 million.

Among Israel's large export markets, only exports to the US and Japan rose in February, compared with the corresponding month of last year. Israel's largest export markets by volume were the US, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK (to which exports fell 8% to $99 million), and Japan.
