Colgate in False Advertising Charge
(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)GUANGZHOU, Mar 29, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --Colgate-Palmolive (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., the world's leading consumer products company Colgate-Palmolive's China presence, was suspected of making false advertising on one of its whitening toothpaste products and has been placed on file for investigation by Nanchang's industry and commerce bureau, a local market watchdog.
A consumer in southwestern city of Nanchang complained that he had used several pieces of Colgate toothpaste that claims quick whitening of teeth within fourteen days but received little effect. He suspected Colgate exaggerates the effect and deceives consumers.
In fact, Nanchang's industry and commerce bureau had instituted an investigation on the case after it received some complaints from consumers around March 15.
Colgate-Palmolive (Guangzhou) replied that its advertising content of whitening teeth within fourteen days is based on the clinical research report by West China College of Stomatology at Sichuan University, an authoritative institution in the country's stomatology field.
However, officials in charge of the case said that the report provided by the college only concluded that the toothpaste is able to effectively reduce the size of tooth speckle or the degree of such speckle after two-week or four-week use, instead of whitening teeth within fourteen days.
