Beijing's Netizen Base Hit 4.28mn
(SinoCast China Business Daily News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, March 27, SinoCast -- Till the end of 2005, Beijing's netizen base has risen to more than 4.28 million, according to sources from the Beijing Information Office.
The city's netizen base has increased by more than 1.2 million, accounting for 28.7% of its total population, compared with five years ago, said a senior official with the Beijing Information Office.
Beijing has outstripped Hong Kong and Macao in terms of the netizen base. Hong Kong has netizens of roughly 4 million by the end of 2005 and Macau 233,000.
Per the penetration rate, Beijing registered netizen penetration rate of 35%, falling behind Hong Kong and Macao which reported around 60% and 53% respectively.
Beijing has websites of more than 120,000, ranking first in China, and it has domain names of more than 350,000, ranking second in the country.
Local households own 4.58 million computers in total and one hundred household own 30.7 units. The city's fixed-line phone subscribers hit 9.5 million, and its mobile phone subscribers 14.7 million.
