TO THE MANOR BORN (Goa's Indo-Portuguese mansions are now being exhibited or let out to tourists as a part of heritage tourism)

(India Business Insight Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Goa's Indo-Portuguese mansions are now being exhibited or let out to tourists as a part of heritage tourism. Some of the mansions contain artefacts ranging from Indo-Portuguese furniture to chinaware. A few examples include the Solar Souto Maior built in 1585, which was thrown open to the public after a Rs2-crore renovation; Hilano Heritage Inn is a 130-year old residence and Claudio Braganza's two-storey mansion in Chandor has 24 balconies and a library of 5,000 books. The owners of these mansions however, are laidback about marketing and the only publicity they get are from visiting foreign journalists and television programmes like `Lonely Planet' and `Special Places to Stay'.
