Telco Systems Introduces T-Metro 200, Metro Ethernet Access Platform with Two Additional Gigabit Uplinks and Enhanced Features; Unique Solution Allows Carriers to Deploy Both HVPLS/MPLS with Circuit Emulation Services

FOXBORO, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- March 20, 2006 -- Telco Systems today introduced the T-Metro 200, the second in a series of carrier-class, multiservice metro Ethernet access platforms for carriers and service providers. T-Metro 200 has two additional gigabit uplinks offering bandwidth prioritization and higher network availability. The unique solution combines Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Hierarchical Virtual Private LAN Services (HVPLS) with Circuit Emulation Services (CES).

The T-Metro enables ILECs, CLECs, IXC, IOC, ISP, MSO cable providers, cellular and emerging carriers to deliver a wide range of managed metro Ethernet services, a variety of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, and legacy TDM services from core networks to customers' premises. T-Metro's MPLS functionality allows service providers to distribute intelligence to the network edge, coupled with the CES capability that reduces operational costs and increases revenue streams.

Telco Systems' new T-Metro 200 platform adds two additional gigabit uplinks, providing carriers with enhanced features for customer located equipment (CLE) implementations that include:

-- Hierarchical Quality of Service (HQoS) - Enables optimal use and prioritization of existing bandwidth for varying service classes, such as video, voice, business applications and e-mail/web-browsing, with the ability to offer customized service level agreements (SLAs). In addition, it allows implementations of tens of thousands of queues, independent for each service.

-- VPLS Provider Edge (PE) Equipment - Acts as a full VPLS PE device, allowing higher intelligence in the network core with enhanced capabilities. It also connects to multiple VPLS PE devices implementing multipoint Ethernet VPNs, which emulates end-user Local Area Networks (LAN) over service providers' MPLS backbones.

-- Label Edge Router (LER) with Fast ReRoute (FRR) Functionality - Performs complex packet analysis and classification before the packet enters the core of the network, including Fast Reroute implementation for less than 50 milliseconds failure recovery, which provides the ability to create metro-access MPLS rings with switch recovery performance equal to SONET and at speeds unmatched by competitors.

-- Access MPLS Rings Support - Enables MPLS ring implementation on the edge of the network using the unified management domain for the entire network. Together with Fast Reroute, this brings MPLS core intelligence to the Metro access network.

"Our T-Metro 100 received a tremendous response from our customers because of this unique combination of VPLS/MPLS with the CES capability," said Dave Lee, Vice President of Marketing and Services of Telco Systems. "The additional features of bandwidth prioritization and network availability in the T-Metro 200 add an even greater level of network intelligence in delivering and migrating a wide range of services, without having to rip out legacy equipment."

The T-Metro supports a wide variety of interfaces that include both copper and fiber-based fast Ethernet and gigabit Ethernet. The platform can be used in applications such as Cellular 2G/3G and PABX TDM backhaul, leased line replacement, and service provisioning in multi-tenant/multi-dwelling units (MTU/MDU) environments.
