Kuwait ready to fight all kinds of cyber crime
(Kuwait Times Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)KUWAIT: In a special interview with the Kuwait Times, the head of computer crime at the department of the public directorate of criminal evidence, Anwar Al-Kanderi explained that such crimes included credit card theft on the Internet, the violation of official or companies' websites, the manipulation or changing of data in a way that would harm a company's or an individual's interest. Al-Kanderi added that his section was also entrusted with coordinating with state security with regards to computer-related crime. "We also have a role in protecting patent and copyrights after coordinating with various concerned authorities in Kuwait, such as the ministry of information and the ministry of commerce," explained Al-Kanderi.
In addition, Al-Kandei highlighted that his team usually went to various establishments such as the Justice Palace, State security, prosecutors and legal experts department in order to explain the work of the section and the jobs it is capable of doing. "We can also retrieve deliberately or accidentally deleted data and report on how they it was lost, we can break the passwords of various programs, systems or even suspects' e-mails when necessary," Kanderi added, pointing out that his team could break any encrypted data and retrieve any files or data deleted from a mobile phone's memory. "We can also track any suspect and the group or groups he/she might be part of by following what is known as 'social engineering' that involves cooperating with various Internet Service Providers in Kuwait," explained Al-Kanderi.
Responding to a question about the most common computer crime, Al-Kanderi said that it forging various kinds of visas issued by computer by the immigration department was very common indeed. He also stressed that amongst his team's duties were fighting the spread of various computer viruses, occasionally uploaded by either amateurs or professionals. In conclusion, Al-Kanderi highlighted that his section was fully equipped with the latest technology and that a special draft law was being planned to incriminate all computer-related crimes or the abuse of PC, which once approved would help reduce the number of computer crimes.
