Jaitley's fleet can be your envy!

(The Times of India Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)AHMEDABAD: Guess what? Arun Jaitley, the current target of the Congress ire over his renomination to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat, owns an enviable fleet of cars, and is the richest among the candidates nominated to the Upper House this term from here.

Jaitley has declared five cars among his assets, his latest acquisition being a BMW bought in the current month. The other sets of wheels that he owns are a Mercedes (2002 model), Hyundai Accent (2002), Chevrolet Optra (2003) and Hyundai Terracan (2004).

Nominated from the BJP for a second term, Jaitley, with his assets totalling over Rs 19.6 crore, has also declared property jointly owned with his wife Sangeeta in Delhi and Gurgaon, besides assets he owns independently.

The Congress has been staging demonstrations against Jaitley for reportedly bailing out scamster Ketan Parekh in the Madhavpura Mercantile Co-operative Bank scam in the Supreme Court. They have also been opposing the fact of his being an "outsider".

The other two BJP MPs who filed their nominations are Modi loyalist from Saurashtra, Vijay Rupani, who is worth Rs 68.6 lakh and Kanji Patel from south Gujarat worth Rs 48.09 lakh. In terms of wheels, Rupani has declared an Innova worth Rs 9 lakh and Patel, a Mahindra Bolero worth Rs 3.6 lakh.

Jaitley has put a huge chunk of his money, Rs 9.88 crore in bonds, debentures and shares, as per the declaration in the affidavit filed before the returning officer. The more interesting bit of information in the affidavit, however, is Jaitley's address: 42/B Bansidhar Society, Jawaharnagar, Vasna, Ahmedabad.

This just happens to be RS MP and former Auda chairman Surendra Patel's house! Of course Patel or Surendra kaka, as he is known, does not live there anymore.
