Aptela Selects Broadwing Communications for Nationwide VoIP/PSTN Connectivity Via SIP
AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)-- March 15, 2006 -- Attracted by the scalability, quality and unique converged approach offered by Broadwing's VoIP solutions, Aptela is replacing current PSTN connectivity partners with Broadwing
Broadwing Communications, LLC (Broadwing) today announced that Aptela Inc., a provider of hosted IP communications technologies that replace traditional phone systems and service, has selected Broadwing to provide Voice over IP (VoIP) access service to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
Broadwing will replace Aptela's current PSTN services vendors and provide scalable, cost-effective nationwide access via its Broadwing PSTNConnect SIP service. The service leverages the Session Initiation Protocol standard for call control.
"Aptela provides communications services to a range of customers from SOHOs (small offices/home offices) to Fortune 500 companies, where delivering 'five nines' reliability is critical," said Howard Freidman, chief executive officer of Aptela. "We selected Broadwing as our network partner because of its wide coverage area, service quality and scalability and ability to support key features such as multiple VoIP codecs, including T.38 for fax, and an electronic order interface."
"With its focus on delivering quality communications services to businesses of all sizes, Aptela is an ideal customer for PSTNConnect SIP," said Broadwing's vice president of marketing Donovan Dillon. "PSTNConnect SIP not only provides Aptela with a more reliable way to connect those businesses to the PSTN, it enables Aptela to connect users to Broadwing's entire local footprint over a single IP interconnect. This reduces the need for gateways and other network equipment that can make the cost of VoIP services skyrocket."
Broadwing's PSTNConnect SIP enables VoIP providers to offer local and long-distance voice services to their end-users in Broadwing's 24 local markets via a single IP connection. PSTNConnect SIP is based on Broadwing's Converged Network, the only purpose-built access network that delivers on the concept of truly converged, plug-and-play communications to reduce costs for both carriers and their customers. The service enables carriers to focus on end-user services and to manage voice capacity with Broadwing on a nationwide basis using industry-standard SIP technology.
