UMassOnline Growth Trend Continues

SHREWSBURY, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- March 14, 2006 --

Fiscal year 2006 sees revenue increase by 29 percent and enrollment by 20 percent

UMassOnline, the University of Massachusetts' online education division, today announced that online education program revenue grew by 29 percent and enrollment increased by 20 percent, in fiscal year 2006 (July 2005 - June 2006). Revenue from online programs was $21 million, up from $16.4 million in fiscal year 2005. Enrollments reached 21,202, up from 17,661 in fiscal year 2005.

"I attribute our steady growth largely to quality and diversity of offerings," said David Gray, UMassOnline CEO. "UMassOnline has what students are looking for: high quality, accredited distance education programming delivered by world-class faculty from a world-renowned institution."

By adding programs that meet consumer demand or serve a critical need, UMassOnline hopes to continue this pattern of growth. Gray concluded, "We recently added a Master of Education for Science Teachers program to address the nationwide shortage of qualified science teachers and our new Bachelor of Arts will help students with some college, finally complete their degrees."

Leanne Duckgeischel, an online Bachelor of Business Administration student and an entrepreneur with a burgeoning artist management company, agrees that UMassOnline is meeting a critical need for today's busy students. "The flexibility of this program has allowed me to pursue my degree while developing and operating my business in another state." Leanne adds, "I have been able to apply the knowledge I've learned from my courses and professors to my small business in San Diego, California. I've truly enjoyed the rich learning environment this program has to offer."
