Brunei: PR arrested for smuggling car spare parts


(Borneo Bulletin Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)A 54-year-old Chinese permanent resident was arrested by Belait Customs Preventive Section after he was allegedly found smuggling car spare parts from Miri, Sarawak.

The suspect, a passenger in a vehicle, was stopped by authorities in the Rasau area at 1.32 pm on Thursday afternoon.

He had declared two engines upon arrival at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post.

The vehicle was searched following information from the Bandar Seri Begawan Customs Intelligence Section regarding an alleged attempt to smuggle car spare parts.

Customs Preventive officials discovered seven pieces of gearbox, one gearbox cover, two radiators, two radiator covers, two drive shafts, a brake booster and 16 packets of icing sugar.

The items were placed at the back space of the vehicle and seized by the Belait Customs Preventive Section.
