Harris Ranch leader honored: Award recognizes chairman's service to the meat industry.
(Fresno Bee (CA) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Mar. 8--David E. Wood, chairman of Harris Ranch Beef Co. in Selma, has been presented the National Meat Association's E. Floyd Forbes Award, given annually to recognize outstanding service to the association and the meat industry.
The organization's highest honor, the award is named after the first president of the association's predecessor organization, Western States Meat Packers Association.
Wood was also given recognition in the Congressional Record by Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno, and received congratulatory letters that included one from Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.
"Of all the awards I have received, this is the most special," Wood said.
Wood graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a bachelor of science degree in animal science. He began his career with Harris Ranch in 1970 and is the chairman of the beef division.
He has served as president and chairman of the board of Western States Meat Packers Association and chairman of the organization's beef committee.
Wood also was chairman of the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board and was chairman of the California Beef Council for two terms.
In 1998, he received the Cattle Business of the Century Award from the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
In 2001, he was named a recipient of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association Environmental Stewardship Award. The National Cattlemen's Foundation presented Wood with a Vision Award in 2003.
