[March 03, 2006] Benefit Dinner Raises Funds for Fallen, Wounded Soldiers' Families Tweet LIVONIA, Mich. --(Business Wire)-- March 3, 2006 -- A benefit dinner honoring fallen and wounded soldiers will be held March 11, 2006, 5:30 pm, at Laurel Manor, 39000 Schoolcraft Rd., Livonia, MI 48150. It is a fundraiser for the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers' Fund to benefit families of the soldiers. Honor and respect for the men and women who've fallen or been wounded in defense of America and freedom around the globe is the foundation for the commitment of a group of Southeast Michigan individuals and organizations supporting the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Recognizing that extraordinary sacrifices are also made by families of soldiers who commit themselves to the mission of keeping Americans free, a local Michigan group has been working to help those families meet their special needs. The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers' Fund will assist the children of fallen soldiers pay for college, fly wounded soldiers' family members to visit them in the hospitals and burn centers in the U.S. and abroad, and help wounded or disabled soldiers adapt their homes for handicapped accessibility. "These men and women of the military have given so much for our nation, that we believe it is our responsibility to support them and their families," said Chris Cornelius, a former soldier who is a founding member of the group. "Everyone involved with this effort saw the family needs and wanted to be a part of doing something to help these Americans who have given so much. This is just one small way we think we can help." Special speakers for the dinner are Master Sergeant William A. Gillette of the Special Forces, Col. Danny G. Pummill, with the Office of the Secretary of the Army, Pentagon, and U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan. Chuck Gadica of WIDV-News 4 in Detroit will be Master of Ceremonies. Congressman Rogers, who has visited a dozen times with U.S. troops in the Middle East, including several trips to both Afghanistan and Iraq, is the keynote speaker. "Visiting with families of fallen soldiers and in hospitals with the wounded and their families, I have seen the great sacrifices they make to defend our nation and all Americans," said Rogers, a U.S. Army veteran and brother of a career Army officer. "The honor and courage with which these soldiers and their families serve is remarkable and inspiring. It humbles me to know them." The March 11 dinner will include a family style meal, premium open bar, silent and live auction, and entertainment.
