KASHIMA, Japan - Kashima Antlers striker Atsushi Yanagisawa said Thursday he hopes to impress at his old club and make the Japanese squad for this summer's World Cup finals in Germany.

Yanagisawa, who has returned to the four-time J-League champions on loan until the end of June from Italian Serie A side Messina, told a press conference, "My biggest goal is to be called up for the World Cup. I want to produce results here to make the team."



---------- Skiing: Ajiki, Takeda win giant slalom national c'ships

SHIGA KOGEN, Japan - Masaharu Ajiki and Chika Takeda both raced to their first victories in the men's and women's giant slaloms respectively at the national championships for Alpine technical events on Thursday.


Ajiki clocked the fastest time on the first run en route to a total of 1 minute, 49.00 seconds. Takeda made two impressive runs for a combined effort of 2:01.71 at Shiga Kogen ski resort in Nagano Prefecture.

---------- Baseball: Eto helps lift Lions to come-from-behind win

NAGOYA - Akira Eto doubled to drive in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as the Seibu Lions came from behind to beat the Chunichi Dragons 8-6 in a preseason exhibition game Thursday.

Eto's double came just after Hiroyuki Nakajima tied the game at 6-6 with a two-out double at Nagoya Dome. The former Yomiuri Giants infielder batted fourth in the lineup and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

---------- Baseball: Nomo agrees to minor league deal with White Sox

TUCSON, Arizona - Japanese right-hander Hideo Nomo has agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox, Director of Player Development Dave Wilder said Wednesday.

Nomo, 37, is expected to report to Triple-A Charlotte next week after the White Sox announce the deal in the next few days, Wilder said.
