Japan, Brunei to hold preparatory FTA talks next week


(Thai Press Reports Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Section: Regional News - Japan and Brunei will hold two-day preparatory talks in Tokyo early next week on concluding a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries, according to a Japanese Foreign Ministry source.



During the meeting, officials from both countries are expected to exchange information on the areas of interest in the run-up to official FTA negotiations.

Japan and Brunei aim to launch formal FTA negotiations by mid-2006, Japanese governmental sources said.


Japan is currently Brunei's largest trading partner due to its imports of crude oil and liquefied natural gas from the Sultanate and exports to the latter of machinery parts and metals. - VNA
