First Specialized Organic Store Opened in Shanghai

(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)SHANGHAI, Feb 16, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --Ostore, the first company to introduce a complete organic specialty store in China, recently has bought 125 mu (1 mu=667 square meters) of farmland in Jiading District of northwest Shanghai, aiming to grow some of the local organic agricultural products.

In July, 2005, the country's first completely specialized organic food store officially opened its doors in Shanghai. It imports international brands from Germany, Japan, and USA, and has few of the certified organic food from the domestic producers.

However, the outlet underperformed since its establishment due to the extremely high price of its organic products. For example, the common potato was sold at CNY 3 per kilogramme, while the organic one was priced at CNY 16.3 per kilogramme.

Therefore, the new store has to reduce its cost so as to decrease the selling price of its products. It will produce organic vegetables and fruits in the large farmland.
