Bush wants to invite Koizumi to U.S. this year: Schieffer+
(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, Feb. 16_(Kyodo) _ U.S. President George W. Bush intends to invite Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to the Untied States this year, U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer said Thursday.
"I did tell him that the president does want to renew his invitation for him to come to the United States sometime this year," the U.S. envoy told reporters after visiting Koizumi at his official residence.
In their talks, Koizumi and Schieffer also discussed the possibility of Koizumi visiting Graceland, home of U.S. rock legend Elvis Presley in Tennessee, because Bush knows that Koizumi was born on Jan. 8, the birthday of Presley, Schieffer said.
Koizumi was supposed to make an official visit to the United States last September but canceled it after dissolving the House of Representatives in August for the Sept. 11 general election.
Bush visited Japan last November for talks with Koizumi in the ancient Japanese capital of Kyoto.
