Steinert to start building glass plant in Kazakhstan in 2006

(Interfax News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)ASTANA. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Steinert Industries GmbH (Germany) is to start building a glass production and treatment plant in Aktobe, Kazakhstan in 2005, Kaisar Omarov, chairman of the construction and residential utilities committee at the Kazakh Industry and Trade Ministry, told Interfax.

He said that the plant would be launched in stages. "We expect that it will be launched in full in 2009," he said.

"Domestic demand in the republic will increase to 9 million
square
meters of glass by 2010. But if we consider that the potential
salesmarket for this product is enormous - countries in Central Asia, Russia, Afghanistan, Iran and Europe - then the project may turn out to be very promising for Kazakhstan," Omarov said.

Construction work will be carried out by Interglass-Kazakhstan, which was founded by Steinert Industries GmbH.

The project will cost 236 million euros. The complex will have a capacity of 21.7 million square meters of glass per year. rd
