China to Pour CNY6.5bn into Qinghai-Tibet Railway Construction

(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TIBET, Feb 14, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --China plans to invest CNY 6.5 billion in speeding up the operation of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, which is now in preparation for trial operation.

The construction of the railway finished last October, laying a substantial foundation for the trial operation this year.

The main tasks are to complete the resettlement of people and land compensation, ecological resumption along the railway, and cooperate with the company in charge of the management of the railway to better the preparation work.

Last year, Tibet Autonomous Region set up a planning team responsible for management of supporting projects along the railway, also in an effort to quicken the operation.

After the operation of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Tibet will confront with huge problem in separation of freight transportation and passenger transportation.
