Lockheed Martin Selects Concurrent's RedHawk Linux Software for Next Generation Aegis Weapon System

DULUTH, Ga. --(Business Wire)-- Feb. 14, 2006 -- Concurrent RedHawk(TM) Linux OS and NightStar(TM) Tools to Support Time-Critical Applications

Concurrent (NASDAQ: CCUR), a leading provider of time-critical Linux operating systems for mission-critical applications, today announced that Lockheed Martin has selected Concurrent's RedHawk Linux operating system and NightStar development tools for the Navy's Cruiser Modernization COTS Refresh 2 program.

The modernization program will leverage the Aegis Open Architecture (AOA) computer programs to refresh the Aegis Weapon Systems on seven Aegis-equipped cruisers. AOA transitions key functional areas of the Aegis Weapon System to a component-based architecture. With AOA, the modernization program will enhance performance, reduce the cost of the Aegis Weapon System and extend the service life. Concurrent has been selected as an annual supplier to the Aegis program and this selection is a multimillion dollar opportunity for Concurrent.

Orlando Carvalho, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin's Moorestown facility, stated, "Aegis-equipped ships comprise 75 percent of the Navy's surface combatant force, and the Aegis Open Architecture program is delivering results that will lead to fast and affordable upgrades to Aegis-equipped ships over the next three decades, as these ships will continue to be the heart of the surface force."

Aegis is a computer-based weapon system capable of real-time, simultaneous operations against multi-mission threats: anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. Led by Lockheed Martin, the AOA program aims to move Aegis from a custom, military specification system to an open architecture through integration of commercial computing technology, allowing the Navy to install software and other technology upgrades faster and cheaper throughout the life of the Aegis fleet.

Concurrent's commercial-off-the-shelf based RedHawk Linux operating system fits perfectly within the AOA's open architecture parameters and delivers the field-proven, real-time functionality that is central to the weapon system's overall performance.

"We are honored to be chosen for this new program by Lockheed Martin and we feel our technology is the best available for a combat system like Aegis," said Warren Neuburger, COO of Concurrent. "Being chosen again as a software supplier to Lockheed Martin is a major endorsement of the Red Hawk Linux real-time operating system and NightStar development tools. This is our tenth year as a supplier to the Aegis program, and this selection now solidly positions us into the next generation architectures for the next 10+ years."

RedHawk Linux provides fast response to external events, optimized interprocess communication, and high I/O throughput needed for time-critical applications. RedHawk Linux, compatible with the popular Red Hat(R) distribution, has gained acceptance as a leading real-time Linux operating system for high-performance applications by customers throughout the world. RedHawk Linux guarantees that a user application can respond to an external event in less than 30 microseconds on a dedicated processor.
