Health & Pharma - Turkish pre-accession funds may be released to fight bird flu(EurActiv (English) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Brief News:Health and Consumer Protection Commissioner Markos Kyprianou said on 13 January 2006 that the enlargement funds foreseen for Turkey for 2007 (around 4 million euro) could be made available in 2006 to combat the avian influenza and stop the disease from becoming endemic in Turkey. The Commission also announced80 million euro of fundingto fight bird flu in non-EU countries. These funds will be officially pledged in theinternational ministerialconferenceon avian and human influenza in Beijing on 17-18 January 2006. The conference is a follow-up on the United States' initiative, launched in November 2005,to structure international co-operation on the issue.
