Jordanian MPs petition their govt to revoke trade agreements with NZ, Denmark, Norway over Muslim cartoons

(IRN News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)The first signs are emerging of a boycott of New Zealand exports due to the cartoon row.

Jordanian MPs have petitioned their government to revoke trade agreements with New Zealand, Denmark and Norway. Sixty four of 110 MPs signed the petition during an emergency session of the Jordanian parliament.

Jordan's finance minister says the government will consider the MPs' request. Authorities there have already arrested two tabloid editors for reprinting the cartoons.

Denmark was the first country to publish political cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad. They were reproduced in the Dominion Post, the Press and the Nelson Mail. TVNZ and TV3 also showed them.
