ebay DISMAY: $14k credit Conn

(Sunday Mirror Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)AN IRISH woman who went on a spending frenzy is facing five years in jail after astonishingly racking up $14,000 in purchases on her friend's eBay account.

Sharon Connolly, 28, had grown up with Sue Stocker in Limerick. The pair had even played cupid for one another by introducing each other to their future husbands.

But after the friendship went sour, Connolly allegedly used her pal's account with online auction house eBay to make a glut of purchases including Tiffany lamps, Egyptian cotton bedsheets and silk robes.

The scam was detected when undies firm Victoria's Secret sent a letter to the Stockers about a credit extension that had been requested by Connolly on their account.

Sharon, who now lives in Florida, and her alleged accomplice - her American husband George Connolly - have been charged with grand theft and unlawful use of a credit card. If found guilty, the couple could be put behind bars for five years.



Connolly told detectives she and her husband made the fraudulent purchases because she was hurt that Sue had tried to break up her marriage by telling her to leave George.

The Stockers are now rethinking their online spending habits. Mark Stocker said: "Is it really worth the $5 you save to buy online?"
