10 Years of Online Sports Betting and Intertops.com is Still on Top!; Online Gaming Pioneer Celebrates 10th Anniversary
LONDON --(Business Wire)-- Feb. 2, 2006 -- A number of guests from the online gaming world gathered in London on Wednesday 25th Janauary to celebrate the 10th birthday of Intertops.com, (www.intertops.com), the world's first online sports betting company.
In 1994 as the internet was still in its infancy and nobody really thought about successful commercial use, Intertops head of technical Ian Sherington discussed this topic with Intertops founder Detlef Train. After further investigations they found out that already 30 million people had access to the internet. This was the magic number for Detlef Train.
Detlef Train founder of Intertops said, "There was no experience and nobody to learn from back in the day. Everything had to be developed and invented, Payment Gateways, Credit Card processing - Everything!"
"It didn't take long though as within little more than a year we had found a way. Even today in an age of off the shelf turnkey solutions this is a very short period of time to turn an idea into reality."
There was a huge demand from people to bet online and the business rocketed from the very start. By 1999 the company added one of the world's first Microgaming online casinos, but strict monopoly laws meant that the company was forced to relocate to operations from the beautiful Austrian city of Saltzburg to exotic Antigua in the Caribbean - where it continues to flourish today.
Intertops.com is now a multi-million dollar operation handling over 1,000 online betting transactions daily and allowing sports fans to wager as much as they wish, whenever they wish - on whatever sporting opportunity!
