[January 31, 2006] JVC to shut down factory in Yokohama in late Feb.+ Tweet (Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, Jan. 31_(Kyodo) _ Victor Co. of Japan said Tuesday it plans to close in late February a factory in Yokohama that produces video camera and rear-projection television parts. JVC said it will merge the operations at the Tsurugamine plant with those of the Yamato factory, also in Kanagawa Prefecture. The company will transfer 80 of its 130 workers at the Tsurugamine plant to the Yamato factory, while retiring workers in an early retirement program or moving the rest to other plants, it said. JVC, expected to incur a group net loss in the year through March for the second straight year, announced last October a plan to retire about 700 workers in an early retirement program and to shut down one or two plants at home and abroad. As JVC has since decided to halt production in Germany, the closure of the Tsurugamine factory will complete the realignment of its production facilities for the time being, the company said.
