BRNO - Free Internet access subsidised from public budgets should be assessed by the European Commission, as some cases could involve illegal public support at the expense of commercial operators, the anti-monopoly office UOHS told CTK.

The statement came in reaction to the association of local Internet providers who criticise the plan of the Prague town hall to provide free Internet in the Czech capital. Firms in Cernovicka terasa zone to employ further 600 staff -----------------------------------------------------------



BRNO - Investors in the local industrial zone Cernovicka terasa will employ a minimum of 600 staff this year, Brno mayor Richard Svoboda told journalists on January 27.

Dutch company CTP Invest will build there three buildings with an area of 42,000 square metres where Acer Czech Republic, Gigabyte Technology and ModusLink, for instance, will launch production. PRAGUE - Magdalena Souckova of Ernst&Young has become new president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Prague, having replaced Laurie Spengler of Central European Advisory Group, according to a press release. RM-System online client numbers up one third at 4,000 -----------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - The number of individual investors trading in shares in the off-exchange RM-System through online trading systems increased by roughly a third to a record 4,000 last year, Jiri Vodicka of RM-System told CTK on January 27.

The volume of Internet trading reached Kc1.32bn last year, that is, one fifth of all transactions involving securities. Insurer Ceska pojistovna selling dozens of buildings--press -----------------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - Czech insurance company Ceska pojistovna is offering dozens of buildings for sale, daily Mlada fronta dnes reported on January 27 with reference to Ceska pojistovna spokesman Vaclav Balek.

The company declined to comment on the financial terms of the transaction. Refrasil to invest Kc30m to raise production --------------------------------------------

TRINEC, North Moravia - Refrasil, one of the largest Czech producers of refractory material, will invest Kc30m this year to raise production capacity by up to a quarter and meet demand, director Tadeas Franek has told CTK.

The amount of investment is four times higher compared with last year.

PRAGUE - The Roads and Motorways Directorate RSD has signed a contract on the construction of a section of the southern part of the Prague orbital with a consortium of companies Strabag, Hochtief Construction AG and Max Boegl a Josef Krysl, RSD spokesman Jan Horeni and Hochtief have told CTK.

The consortium offered to build the six-kilometre section between Slivenec and Lahovice for Kc8.9bn which was the lowest price in the tender. Awareness of quality mark Klasa for food products grows -- SZIF --------------------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - The awareness of the Klasa quality mark awarded to Czech-made food products has increased considerably thanks to a promotion campaign launched in mid-2005, a poll by the State Agricultural Intervention Fund (SZIF), which manages Klasa, has shown.

Representatives of SZIF told reporters on Friday that the number of the polled Czech women between 20 and 55 years of age aware of the mark has risen to 36 percent from some 6 percent before the launch of the campaign. Hruby replaces Havel as head of CEZ supervisory board -----------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - The supervisory board of state-run power producer CEZ decided on Thursday that Zdenek Hruby will become the new supervisory board chairman, CEZ spokesman Ladislav Kriz told CTK on Friday.

Hruby, currently deputy chairman of the CEZ supervisory board and former deputy finance minister, will replace Jiri Havel who stepped down from the post after he became Deputy Premier for Economy in January. PRE elects new supervisory board of unit PREdistribuce ------------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - The board of directors of Prague's power distributor Prazska energetika (PRE) elected on Friday new members of the supervisory board of its subsidiary PREdistribuce, PRE said in a press release.

PRE set up PREdistribuce at end-2005 and transferred to it its distribution activities. Senate approves amended law on veterinary care ----------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - The Senate approved an amendment to the law on veterinary care today and the President is now to sign it into law.

The bill introduces new fees related to animal care but cancels or cuts others and overall should not raise entrepreneurs' costs, said farm minister Jan Mladek. Ceska pojistovna starts payments to Connexion Voyages clients -------------------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - Insurer Ceska pojistovna (CP) has started to pay compensations to some 50 clients of bankrupt travel agency Connexion Voyages who will get 100 percent of their valid claims, hundreds of thousands of crowns in total, the insurer's spokesman Vaclav Balek told CTK today. SZPI finds anabolic steroids in Aminostar's food supplement--Nova -----------------------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - The State Agricultural and Food Inspection Office (SZPI) has detected anabolic steroids in food supplements (Creatine Pyruvate) of the company Aminostar and ordered their immediate withdrawal from the market, commercial TV Nova reported tonight referring to SZPI spokeswoman Daniela Kolejkova.

Aminostar owner Josef Bukvic said he had no info about the results of the inspection and would therefore make no comments. Control tests in Belgium confirmed the occurrence of 2 anabolic steroids, said Kolejkova.
