Red Crescent team in Colombo to oversee projects for tsunami victims
(Comtex Global News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)COLOMBO, Jan. 23 WAM, 2006 (QNA via COMTEX) --A delegation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Red Crescent Society (RCS) arrived here yesterday to oversee implementation of a number of projects in the Tsunami-stricken areas of Sri Lanka.
The projects include a residential city named after President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, and a residential district named after the UAE, besides other projects aimed at providing shelter and other support for thousands rendered homeless by the Tsunami that hit the region last year.
UAE Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mahmoud Al Mahmoud said the RCS efforts were being well received by the officials and people of Sri Lanka.
The Head of the RCS team, Abdullah Al Mahmoud, said up to 900 residential units will be constructed to provide shelter for thousands of local families.
