ZigBee Alliance Kicks off the New Year with Certification Process and Successful Event Participation; Following a Banner Hong Kong Open House, Alliance Hosts Highly Successful Pavilion at International CES 2006
SAN RAMON, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 23, 2006 -- The ZigBee(TM) Alliance, an association of companies working together to enable wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard, reported today that market adoption of the ZigBee technology continues to accelerate citing the finalization of the certification process, many new demonstrations at its recent Hong Kong Open House and the intense interest in the ZigBee pavilion and introduction of new products exhibited at the International CES 2006 in Las Vegas.
At CES, the Alliance announced its "ZigBee Certification" program, which ensures that products are fully interoperable "out of box" and can easily participate in a ZigBee network. Member companies can now test the growing number of ZigBee-ready products already in the consumer market so they can be fully branded as ZigBee Certified for home, industrial or commercial use. Independent test service providers, National Technical Services, Inc. and TUV Rheinland Group, will oversee and conduct the Alliance's certification testing to ensure products are interoperable in a variety of environments and end-user applications.
"International CES 2006 provided an excellent venue for the Alliance to expose a broader, consumer oriented audience to the ZigBee technology," said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. "Introducing our ZigBee Certification program signaled the imminent availability of ZigBee branded products that will impact a broad range of consumer, industrial and business-related markets. A month prior in Hong Kong, we held an interop event that actually allowed companies to see a multi-vendor ZigBee network in action."
On December 8, 2005, the Alliance hosted its quarterly Open House and Exposition in Mongkok, Hong Kong, drawing several hundred guests from the Asian community. The Open House featured more than 21 live demonstrations of ZigBee products from multiple Alliance member companies including: Atalum, Atmel, BM-SpA, Chipcon, Cirronet, Crossbow, Daintree Networks, Ember Corporation, ETRI, Freescale Semiconductor, Helicomm, Jennic Ltd., LS Research, MaxStream, Microchip, Nanotron, RadioPulse, Renesas, Telegesis, UBEC and Ubiwave.
During the Hong Kong Open House, attendees had the opportunity to see ZigBee's powerful mesh networking technology in action with a live demonstration showcasing a network forming using ZigBee platforms from multiple vendors. The network formation was telecast on large-screen displays to allow attendees to observe the creation of a ZigBee mesh network in real-time. As radios joined the ZigBee network they were identifiable on screen by their manufacturers' logos, allowing attendees to witness how these networks self organize and the ability of multiple manufacturers to interoperate.
ZigBee Open House events have always been a great opportunity for the public to see ZigBee products and developments currently available while allowing member companies to also publicly showcase upcoming ZigBee products and technologies. Numerous applications of the ZigBee technology will be showcased at the next ZigBee Open House on Thursday, March 16, 2006 in Milan, Italy. Online registration and information are available at http://www.zigbee.org/en/events/openhouseannouncement_2006-03-16.asp.
ZigBee is the only standards-based technology designed to address the unique needs of low-cost, low-power, wireless sensor networks for remote monitoring, home control, and building automation network applications in the industrial and consumer markets. Companies who want to have input on developing the ZigBee specification and create ZigBee products can join by visiting http://www.zigbee.org/join/.
