Toyota to raise truck output capacity in Mexico+


(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, Jan. 23_(Kyodo) _ Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday it will boost its Mexican unit's annual production capacity for pickup trucks to 50,000 vehicles from the current 30,000 and that for truck beds to 200,000 units from the present 180,000 within 2007.



The output will be increased at Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja California S. de R.L. de C.V. based in Tijuana, Mexico, at a cost of $37 million.

The Mexican firm, which began operations in 2004 and builds pickup trucks under the Tacoma brand for sale locally and in the United States, also makes all truck beds for the Tacoma, which are supplied to New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., a California-based joint venture between the Japanese carmaker and General Motors Inc.
