Tellfree aims for 60,000 VoIP users

(BNamericas.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Brazilian startup VoIP operator Tellfree expects to end 2006 with 60,000 clients, up from 2,000-3,000 today, company staff said at a trade event in So Paulo on Thursday.

The announcement comes just as Brazil's telecoms regulator Anatel has authorized Tellfree to connect its VoIP services with other networks. The permit allows Tellfree to offer IP telephony services that can receive and make calls to conventional fixed and mobile telephones.

"The company aims to be a major player in the Brazilian market by 2008," according to its website. "In 2009, more than 60% of calls will be done via VoIP technology," the company claims.

Tellfree Brasil is based in So Paulo and has points of presence in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador and Porto Alegre. The company empoys 10 people in Brazil and aims to end 2006 with national coverage.
