(Comtex Energy Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)COLOMBO, Jan 18, 2006 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The Sri Lankan government will
expedite oil exploration operations in the deep sea around the
country to discover more oil and gas deposits within the next
three years, Daily News reported Wednesday.

"We are expecting to discover oil deposits within the next
three years, which will help us become one of the richest nations
in the region," Minister of Railways and Transport, Petroleum and
Petroleum Development A.H.M Fowzie said.

He said that it has been scientifically proved that oil and
other petroleum related gases could be found in and around the sea
of Sri Lanka.

Fowzie said more efforts have to be made to build the country's
economy and to protect national resources for the future
generation.
