Broadweave Connects New Communities With Fiber to the Home

SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadweave's signature slogan is, "You're not really living, if you're not connected." If Broadweave achieves its objective, it will be connecting all new planned communities with a fiber-optic network to every home and business. Broadweave is currently installing Fiber-To-The-Premise (FTTP) Networks in new or "greenfield" real estate developments with a simple value proposition -- "Why build new cities on yesterday's infrastructure?" This week, Broadweave launched the nationwide expansion of its last-mile, fiber networks and its "Triple-Weave" Suite of all three classes of service -- Telephone, TV, and Internet. With Broadweave's expansion currently under way, new planned communities have the opportunity to offer today's hottest lifestyle amenity -- a fiber-optic network to each home and business, supporting bandwidth of up to 1,000 times the speed of Cable and DSL networks.
Founded by an all-star team of veterans from AOL, Bain Capital, and Novell, Broadweave is the first to address this market, reaching its first agreement with a planned community in 1999. It is no surprise that Broadweave is gaining traction in this industry. In 2003, Broadweave became the first to deploy primary-line voice, video, and data services over an IP network when Broadweave launched its fiber-based services to Traverse Mountain, Utah's premiere planned community which spreads more than 8,000 homes and 4.5 million square feet of commercial space across 3,000 acres.
According to Steve Christensen, Broadweave's CEO, "Broadweave and the developer join marketing forces for the purpose of offering potential home buyers a lifestyle amenity that yesterday's communities cannot match -- a fiber-optic network that supports nearly unlimited services, features, and bandwidth." Broadweave has bandwidth to spare for movies on demand, unified communications, gaming, file sharing, and many other services. Broadweave's fiber networks are a differentiator for the developer that will accelerate the sale of homes within the community and will future proof the community against infrastructure obsolescence.
Copper lines are already obsolete and litter neighborhoods with unsightly pedestals and cabinets. Fiber optics can deliver the signal without the need for signal repeaters in pedestals. Broadweave's Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) network means that there are no downgrades to copper at any point in the system. From Broadweave all the way to the customer, the network is pure fiber.
As important, Broadweave's fiber-to-the-home networks will increase the appraised value of the homes within the community. One market study concludes: "The average homeowner sees FTTH being worth an additional $4,000 to $7,000 per home" (Render, Vanderslice & Associates, Fiber To The Home and Optical Broadband, Nov. 2002; 44.).
