Study Suggests Most Texas Companies Will Use Blogs To Communicate; The Number One Question on the Minds of Executives: ``Why Should We?''

AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 28, 2005 -- Eight-nine percent of corporations will be on the blogging bandwagon soon according to a study recently released by The Guidewire Group, a San Francisco-based research company.

The findings of the study correlates well with what Texas-based executives are saying about their adoption of this new way of communicating with employees and customers, says Paul Walker, an Austin-based consultant and co-organizer of Texas' first corporate conference on the topic which will take place Nov. 2 in the capital city.

"Executives tell me they are intrigued by the potential business benefits of blogging -- and highly related podcasting and video podcasting -- based on early reports from pioneers like Microsoft, IBM, GM and Purina," said Walker. "At the same time, they are struggling with where to start and how to justify the investment of time and money when the benefits of blogging are still so uncertain."

Blogging companies in The Guidewire Group study site improved internal communications and brand recognition as some of the major benefits. While Texas executives seem to buy-in to those possibilities they are still searching for more proof.

The good news is that unlike other new technologies, companies are not concerned with blogging technology because it's fairly easy to implement and use and the investment required in hardware and software is not an issue. They are mostly concerned about the amount of time and energy required to blog successfully and the prospects of generating real economic benefits.

These issues will be addressed by twenty-five speakers at The Blogging Enterprise, Nov. 2, in Austin. The line-up includes: Steve Rubel, author of "Micro Persuasion" weblog; Shel Israel, Author of "Naked Conversations," the weblog and the book; and executives from organizations such as IBM, EDS, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, GSD&M, The University of Texas and GCI.
