ALAXALA Networks Taps IDT Network Search Engine for New High-End AX7800S Series Switches

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 30, 2005 -- The IDT 75N43102 NSE Delivers the Industry's Smallest Form Factor Solution with Advanced Search Capability to Accelerate Security Functions in ALAXALA's PSU-43 Security Module

IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.)(Nasdaq:IDTI), a leading communications IC company and the leading provider of network search engines (NSEs), today announced that its 75N43102 NSE has been selected by ALAXALA Networks Corporation for its new, PSU-43 Security Module, which has been integrated into the ALAXALA AX7800S series switches. Featuring packaging that is up to 50 percent smaller than competing solutions, the IDT 75N43102 NSE is the industry's smallest form factor NSE. The advanced search capability of the IDT 75N43102 NSE accelerates searches for certification and inspection of VLAN traffic being aggregated by the PSU-43 security module. The small footprint and advanced search capability of the IDT 75N43102 NSE makes it an ideal solution for the PSU-43 Security Module, which combines MAC VLAN support in a form factor that can occupy up to eight slots on a AX7800S series chassis.

Formed in Japan in October 2004 as a joint venture between Hitachi, Ltd. and NEC Corporation, ALAXALA is focused on the business of supplying highly reliable backbone routers/switches for telecommunications networks. In addition to the capabilities of the PSU-43 Security Module, the company's AX7800S series switches offer 384 Gbit/s backplane switching performance, and can support up to 384 1G Ethernet ports and 32 10G Ethernet ports, which is an industry-leading number of ports for the height of the chassis. The switches allow for ultra-fast 10G processing of IPv4 and IPv6 protocols simultaneously, while providing support for IPv4/IPv6 dual stacks and IPv4/IPv6 combined network environments.

"In addition to the security benefits we gained by selecting the IDT NSE, the device's small form factor enabled a smaller system footprint, which minimized board space and allowed our engineers to have more flexibility for their design," said Hiroyuki Eguchi, senior manager of the Carrier Product Development Department, ALAXALA Networks Corporation. "The IDT 75N43102 brings the functionality, cost and size benefits that will help ALAXALA continue to expand its business and deliver on its mission of enabling highly reliable and secure 'guaranteed networks' for worldwide markets."

"Leveraging the combined engineering efforts of its venerable parent companies, Hitachi and NEC, ALAXALA has developed an innovative solution, and we are excited to be a part of their design," said Dave Cech, director of marketing for the IDT IP co-processor division. "The IDT 75N43102 NSE enables ALAXALA to achieve a highly efficient and flexible design, while realizing the benefits of added search and table-management functions."

The IDT 75N43102 NSE interfaces to application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and is targeted at a wide range of applications in the enterprise and access markets. The device has a base configuration of 64Kx36, and it offers the ability to cascade up to two devices in order to support larger databases and enable further functionality into customers' end boxes. The 75N43102 also supports multiple databases for a variety of applications related to multi-field classification and is available in search widths up to 288 bits.
