CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 29, 2005 -- Vanu, Inc. today announces that it has been awarded the SDR Forum's Industry Achievement Award for 2005. The award, presented in recognition of an outstanding contribution to research and development in the field of Software Defined Radio (SDR), was announced at the SDR Forum's Annual Technical Conference which took place from Nov. 14-18, 2005 in Anaheim, CA.

In the first award bestowed on a company rather than an individual, Vanu was selected for showing outstanding leadership in both technology architecture development and product design in the SDR market space. At the award ceremony, the SDR Forum cited Vanu as "a company that has rapidly become the SDR company that others in the industry aspire to emulate". Dr. Vanu Bose was recognized as the principal inventor of the software radio technology at the core of Vanu's products. Dr. John Chapin, Vanu's CTO, was also recognized for playing a major role in the development of SDR technology, not just within Vanu, but also in leadership positions on Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) working groups within the SDR Forum and JTRS communities.

"This is the most prestigious award in the software radio field," said Dr. John Chapin, CTO of Vanu. "The SDR Forum plays a pivotal role in the industry and we are thrilled to be listed with the visionaries and researchers they have previously honored."

Past recipients of the award include Joseph Mitola III, Ph.D, Consulting Scientist, MITRE Corporation; Jorge Pereira, Scientific Officer, European Commission; and Jeffrey Reed, Ph.D, Professor and Associate Director of the Mobile and Portable Radio Research Group (MPRG), Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Vanu offers the Anywave Base Station as a turnkey system fully implemented, tested and optimized for each deployment by the company's service professionals. Vanu also licenses software radio technologies and waveforms (air interfaces) and provides design consulting services to wireless device manufacturers, systems integrators and service providers.
