Wesley C. ARYES

Wesley C. Aryes passed away at Regent Care on November 9, 2005. Wes was born on August 5, 1928 in Bishop, California to Earl and Esther Ayres. He attended Chaffrey High School and Junior College in Ontario, California. In 1948 Wes served in World War II in the U.S. Maritime Service. In 1950 he was drafted into the U. S. Army and served in Japan and Korea. Wes returned to Nevada in 1952 and married his wife of 52 years, Leanore, in March 1953. Wes worked for R & M Auto Parts for 42 years before he retired.

Wes was a lifetime member of VFW 407, now 9211 and served as State Commander for the VFW in 1972. Wes was raised a Master Mason in Washoe Lodge No. 35 F&AM in 1958 and was initiated into Rose Chapter #27 Order of the Eastern Star in 1960. Wes served an officer in Rose Chapter every year since 1975. He was a Past Patron of both Rose Chapter #27 and Electa Chapter in Austin. He was elected Grand Sentinel in 1983 and served Grand Chapter as Worthy Grand Patron in 1985. Wes served as Worshipful Master of Lander Lodge No. 8 in Austin and was a member of Cryptic Masons, Royal Arch Masons and Knights Templar.

Wes is survived by his wife, Leanore, granddaughters Debra Chambers of Connecticut, Terry Swain of Florida, grandson Christian Schonlau of Reno, great-granddaughter Kaitlin Chambers of Connecticut, and daughter Judy Schonlau of Reno.


At the request of Wes, there will be no services and private interment will be held at the Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.

Edward H. COLT

Funeral Services for Edward H. Colt will be held Saturday, November 19, 2005 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 100 Bishop Manogue Drive Reno, Nevada at 10:00 in the morning with a viewing scheduled for Friday evening November 18, 2005 at Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary, 2155 Kietzke Lane Reno from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening.

Joshua Frank GAMBOA

Joshua Frank Gamboa, born in Reno, Nevada on July 17, 1972, died in a tragic motorcycle accident on November 14, 2005. At the time of his passing, Joshua was engaged to marry Gina Abeyta of Benicia, California. He had recently relocated to Benicia and was excited about beginning a new life with Gina and her daughter Maxine, and starting a new career in the wine industry working for the Henry Wine Group.

Josh, as his family and friends knew him, loved the spiritual peace he found in gardening, home improvement projects, and beach combing. Josh had a loving and caring heart, and always a twinkle in his eye when he looked upon those he loved. His family grieves in their loss of a loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, and cousin.

Josh is survived by his mother Nanette Merlino, father Frank Gamboa Jr., stepfather Mike Merlino, brother Anthony Merlino, sister Nicole Merlino, brother Frankie Gamboa the III, grandparents Joan and Clark Halstead and Olga and Francisco Gamboa, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces from both sides of his family. We will all miss him.

A private family service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2005 to celebrate his life at the First Congregational Church in Reno, Nevada.

Larry G. HICKMAN

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Larry G. Hickman, 55, of Minden this Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 11:00am at Hilltop Community Church, 3616 N. Sunridge Drive, Carson City.

The Lord took Larry home November 13th, 2005. Larry had a good heart but not a healthy heart.

Larry served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman 2nd Class. He worked at the San Diego Post Office, while he attended University of San Diego, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting. Larry moved to Minden in 1979 to work for the Gaming Control Board. After becoming a C.P.A. in 1986, he took a position with the Department of Business and Industry, where he worked in the Financial Institutions Division until he retired in 2004 as Deputy Commissioner. Larry was a Vice President of The Bank Holdings at the time of his death.

Larry was born on January 22, 1950 in Akron, Ohio to DeVere and Hattie Hickman, who preceded him in death along with his older brother De. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca "Becky" Hickman of 30 years, his remarkable sons, Daniel, Joshua, and Zachary, and along with extended family and friends.

Dr. Theresa May HOUSDEN

Dr. Theresa May Housden passed away after a long illness at her home in Reno on November 11, 2005. Dr. Housden was born on August 4, 1949 in Sacramento to parents Eugene and Ireta Black and grew up in nearby Rio Linda. She received her PhD in statistics from Sacramento State in 1976 and was a long time senior administrator and professor in the Sacramento and Bay areas. She moved to Reno eight years ago and taught mathematics at Truckee Meadows Community College before retiring last July. Dr.

Housden is survived by her husband Michael Steeves of Reno, stepson Warren Steeves of Ottawa, Ontario, stepdaughter Melissa Steeves of Vancouver, British Columbia, mother Ireta Black of Rio Linda, California and sister Doris Jones, brother in law Larry Jones and nephew David Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 19 at the Community United Methodist Church in Rio Linda. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Family members also wish to thank the nurses of the oncology ward at Washoe Medical Center, Dr. Peter Lim's office and Vista Care for their many acts of kindness and support.

Lucky Ervin MITCHELL

Lucky Ervin Mitchell passed away in Reno, Nevada at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center on November 14, 2005. He was 72. He was born June 25, 1933 in California to Floyd Mitchell and Lois Mauldin.

Lucky is survived by his daughters, Cindy Kuebler and Phyllis Darling, former wife Madylin of Prescott, AZ, three sisters, Peggy Bluhm and Patty Mitchell of Reno, and Naomi Branbow of CA, one grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Captain Jerry L. WIKE

January 4, 1939 - November 12, 2005

Jerry L. Wike, 66 years young, was preceded in death by father, Manual J. Wike of North Carolina, mother, Berniece M. Wike of Missouri, brother, Larry R. Wike of Twin Falls Idaho. Jerry is survived by his love of nine years, Kathy Burns of Sparks, brother, Randy E. Wike of Sparks, proud father of son Terry L. Wike of Las Vegas and daughter Tamara M. Becker of Huntington Beach, adoring grandfather of Christopher J. Collins, granddaughter Ashley S. Becker and grandson Garrett J. Becker of Huntington Beach, CA, nephews Petty Officer Justin E. Wike, Aaron K. Wike and niece Kristan Erving/Wike and "Favorite Sister-In-Law", Denise F. Wike of Sparks.

Jerry graduated from Sparks High School in 1957 after which he joined the Armed Forces. He was assigned top security clearance and was the personal armed guard for President Dwight Eisenhower's helicopter. After four years in the Armed Forces he entered the law enforcement field with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. In 1962 until 1963 he served with the Nevada Highway Patrol. He then attended the Police Academy in Utah, where he had scored the highest test results upon completion ever. In 1963 until he retired in 1991, he was with Sparks Police Department. Again, he achieved the highest score on the Civil Service test he was promoted to Commander" of the detective division. In 1982 he attended the FBI Academy after which he was promoted Captain of the Sparks Police Department, which he retired as in 1991 with a total of 31 years in law enforcement. Jerry was a supporter and coach for the Pop Warner Football Organization, and mentored these young athletes for 10 years. He was also a huge supporter and fan of all the University of Nevada Sporting events, being a booster for a total of 30 years.

A Viewing will be held on November 18, 2005 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Walton's Sparks Funeral Home at 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks. A memorial services is to be held on November 19, 2005 in the Sparks High School Gymnasium at 11:00 AM, 820 15th street, Sparks. A Celebration of Jerry's life will be held at the poolside terrace at John Ascuaga's Nugget immediately following the service.
