Education briefsUpcoming events There will be a Thanksgiving Celebration entitled "Celebration and Appreciation" from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at West Muskingum High School. The theme was inspired to recognize those who provide services to people in the community, such as firefighters, emergency medical technicians and the police force. Guest speaker will be Dan Hartman, director of Red Cross. Additionally, entertainment involving West Muskingum's music programs, artwork from the elementary schools and other activities will be on show. The event is put on by the committee of members from National Honor Society, junior and senior classes, FBLA, Key Club, FFA and others. The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with Muskingum College, will present a live performance by the rock orchestra The Lakewood Project at 7 p.m. Monday, in Philip and Betsey and Caldwell Hall on the campus. Based in the Cleveland suburb of Lakewood, The Lakewood Project consists of both acoustic and electric string instruments, as well as electric guitar and bass, keyboard and percussion. The group performs musical genres that include Mozart, the 1970s pop phenomenon Kansas and the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin. For information: (740) 826-8197. Announcements The Ohio University-Zanesville Campus Library has new resources to make student research easier. Patrons who need help with research can now utilize Instant Messaging technology. To instant message the reference staff, use zanelibref- on AOL and MSN Messenger or [email protected] on Yahoo Messenger.The instant messaging service is available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. At other times, students can get help from the "Chat with a Librarian" service. Patrons can also find out new information about the library on the library blog -- News @ your library -- accessible through the Zanesville Campus Library web page.The blog offers book recommendations, announces library events and activities and keeps patrons informed of service-related notifications. Along with Internet and technology enhancements, the Zanesville Campus Library provides group project resources "@ your library." These resources include computer stations, two group study areas, multimedia labs, and a Curriculum Materials Center. Digitized videos in most major areas including foreign language digital videos and Encyclopedia of Physics demonstrations are located "@ your library." The Zanesville Campus library's newest databases are Naxos Music Library and the Learning Express Library. The Naxos Music Library is a collection of online music, including classical, jazz, world, folk and Chinese music. The Learning Express Library is an interactive, online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series. The Zanesville Campus Library serves students of Ohio University-Zanesville, Zane State College and the community.
