Global CARTS Symposiums Receive High Marks; CARTS Asia, CARTS Europe Add to ECA's Successful Line Up
ARLINGTON, Va. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 8, 2005 -- October's inaugural CARTS Asia and the 19th annual CARTS Europe have been declared a success by the shows' sponsor, the Electronic Components, Assemblies & Materials Association (ECA).
"The major hurdle we had to overcome in Asia was the concept of companies sharing technical knowledge with other companies in the industry," says Bob Willis, ECA president. "The CARTS name is well recognized by industries in Asia, and the addition of CARTS Asia to our conference line up will help broaden ECA's international reach."
The inaugural CARTS Asia was ECA's first foray into conferences in Asia. It was part of TAITRONICS Autumn 2005, the largest electronics exhibition in Asia. Engineers and designers from Taiwan and neighboring countries were given a first-hand look at the new technologies driving the passive electronic components industry. TAITRONICS and CARTS Asia attendees were welcomed by Taiwan's vice president Annette Lu and the president of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturer's Association (TEEMA), Joseph Chaeng.
More than 30 senior executives from the Taiwan electronics industry attended the CARTS Asia marketing seminar. Nick Baratte of JP Morgan Taiwan, Amy Wang of China Outlook Consulting, and Dennis Zogbi of Paumanok Publications USA presented, respectively, the Taiwan version of Wall Street, electronic component distribution in mainland China, and the global passive electronic components industry.
During TAITRONICS, the so-called G-Plan (Green Plan) was launched to help Taiwanese companies bring their operations into conformity with the European Union's (EU) WEEE and RoHS directives.
WEEE and RoHS dominate discussion
A week after CARTS Asia, WEEE and RoHS took center stage at CARTS Europe, held in Prague, Czech Republic. The conflict between the lead-free and RoHS initiatives, and the imposing deadline of July 2006 for compliance were hot topics. The EU's directives restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and the waste byproducts of such equipment.
Testing, reliability, materials and processes were also discussed at CARTS Europe, similar topics to those on the bill at CARTS Asia, but with a slightly different focus. Passive electronic component technologies are similar throughout the world, but the applications and end use processes can differ from region to region. The CARTS series is unique in its approach to worldwide electronic components technology - the scope is international but the presentation is regional.
Call for CARTS USA papers
The CARTS series continues with CARTS USA 2006, to be held April 4-6, in Orlando, Fla. A call for papers has been issued for the 26th edition of this premier conference for the passive components industry. As with other ECA-sponsored conferences, papers accepted at CARTS USA become international in scope, as they are posted to ECA's digital library, where visitors can search for individual conference papers by event name, title and keyword.
The deadline for CARTS USA 2006 abstracts is November 30, 2005. To submit a paper for CARTS USA 2006 or to access the more than 300 papers archived in ECA's digital library, visit www.ec-central.org.
About ECA
