Smith Barney Launches Redesign of Young Investors Network Web Site; Award-Winning Web Site Helps Kids Learn Early About Money And Investing
NEW YORK --(Business Wire)-- May 26, 2005 -- Smith Barney announced today the re-launch of its award-winning Young Investors Network Web site aimed at helping middle school children learn more about money and investing. After holding a series of focus groups with middle school children and their parents across the country in late 2004, Smith Barney launched a new enhanced Web site that includes new educational content as well as enhanced audio and visual effects.
Smith Barney Young Investors Network Web site provides a highly engaging learning experience for middle school children. It is a tremendous resource of information for children, their parents and teachers, featuring accessible and relevant lessons and guidance on how children can begin saving, investing, planning and budgeting. The site has three distinct sections, including those focused on young investors, families and educators. The Young Investors Web site supports Smith Barney's Young Investors Initiative, which also provides educational materials, resources and programs to families and educators.
Smith Barney Young Investors Network Web site was originally launched in 2000. The Web site has since received the "Best of the Web - Investing for Kids" award from Forbes magazine in 2000 and 2001, and the "Best Brokerage Web Site" award from WebAwards in 2001.
"When it comes to money, many of the children we spoke with did not know as much as their parents thought they did," said Mindy S. Ross, managing director of Smith Barney's Target Market Initiatives. "That's why at Smith Barney, we understand that teaching kids about money -- earning, saving and investing it -- is one of the most important responsibilities of a parent. It's also a challenge we're committed to helping them meet."
Smith Barney maintains a longstanding commitment to build stronger communities through financial education. The firm's Young Investors Initiative also includes Smith Barney's Take Your Parents to School Day(R) Program, a national three-day in-school program based on a proprietary financial education curriculum and supported by the Young Investors Network Website.
Smith Barney plans to introduce additional interactive features throughout the year. To view the newly redesigned Smith Barney Young Investors Web site, log on to www.smithbarney.com/yin.
